Melody’s Key

Melody’s Key

333 pages – written by Dallas Coryell – 4 star read

I was asked by Dallas to read and review Melody’s Key and I really enjoyed reading it. The story is told in the third person, which I’m not use to so it took me a little while to get use to that. It’s told in the point of view of Teagan, who works at her family’s resort in England. Mason, a popular pop star from the USA, comes to stay at Tegan’s family resort for the summer to seek privacy and a break from his famous world. Teagan is not thrilled that they have to host this spoiled rich pop star but her family needs the money Mason’s people have agreed to give them for his stay. Mason ends up feeling like part of the family after being invited to a family dinner. Mason and Teagan end up falling for each other once they get to know each other and Teagan let’s her guard down. She realizes he’s not the spoiled pop star she thought he was and believes Mason when he tells her the image the media has painted of him is not the real him, it’s there to sell records. Mason’s fiance show’s up where he’s staying. Can Mason and Teagan survive this?

I enjoyed reading this story. Teagan is a character most people can relate to. She was hurt by a guy before and keeps her walls up and heart guarded with Mason always thinking things are too good to be true. The story is much different than I’m use to reading but I enjoyed it. It’s the perfect book to read after that book hangover. Unlike many romance novels, this book feels like it could be a true story. The characters have real problems that regular people have; money problems, trust issues, self esteem issues.  It’s almost like a modern day fairytale. The one thing I didn’t like about the book was the flow of the chapters. There were many chapters where the chapter just ends and you don’t pick up where you left off in the next chapter. I would also have liked to hear more from Mason and what his thoughts were, I’ve seen this done well in many third person novels and I think it would have helped Mason’s character in this book.

Dallas’s book synopsis and about the author can be found below.

“His eyes settled on her…piercing green embers of flame that revealed the ferocity of his pain and passion, yet still shrouded him under veils of ever deepening mystery that made every ounce of her ache to unravel him.”

Tegan Lockwood’s dreams were dead, sacrificed on the noble altar of duty before they ever had a chance to live. Her entire existence was disappearing into the abyss of apathy as she labored her d ays away keeping her family’s struggling business alive. There would be no emotion, no color, no beauty in her life. That is, until a mysterious visitor begins to draw her out of the darkness of her past towards something that will challenge the boundaries of her world, and unlock the most deeply held secrets of her heart.
